I had a great opportunity to work with Blur Studios on the PGC 2019 Trailer for PUBG back in July/August of 2019.
I was given a camera and low resolution terrain mesh, and was tasked with providing a matte painting of this quick aerial shot of a small portion of Erangel.
I ended up doing most all of this in 3D, utilizing Clarisse iFX for rendering, Houdini for modeling procedural buildings, Megascans assets to dress up some small details, A touch of Maya for geometry prep, and World-Machine - and Houdini again - for terrain detailing. Ultimately The render was brought into Photoshop for some paint-over and cleanup work before delivering.
Overall a very smooth project from start to finish, and a lot of fun to work on. However, it was a bit of a challenge to try and match the game map as close as possible. Probably should have spent more "research" time in-game.
